Why Trinity

Three reasons our clients stay.

We’re a boutique accounting practice built on long-term client relationships, offering personalised tax, accounting, and advisory services to businesses and organisations across Sydney.

  • Longevity that compounds

Twenty-three years in practice as of 2026. Same firm, same principal, same standards since 2003. Some clients have been with us almost the whole way. The work compounds, and so does the trust. Over four hundred SMSFs managed and thousands of tax returns lodged.

  • Everything under one roof

Tax, books, advisory, SMSF, Xero. One team that knows your business. No handoffs between firms, no missed details between specialists, no questions you have to answer twice. Numbers flow cleanly from books to BAS to tax return because the same people are looking at all of them.

  • We pick up the phone

We are old-fashioned about this. You get a name, a direct line, and someone who actually knows your file. We watch for trends, flag issues before they become fines, and call when something needs attention. Most clients hear from us between quarters, not just at lodgement time.

ATO matters

An ATO letter sitting on your desk.

The envelope arrives. Or the email. Or the text from your accountant saying the ATO has been in touch about the 2022 return. Suddenly something signed off three years ago is back, with questions, and the response window is short.

You ring your accountant. They say they will look at it. A week later, a half-answer comes back with a quote for the work. Maybe they handle the matter, maybe they refer you out. Either way, it is now expensive, stressful, and on the clock.

ATO matters resolve faster, with much less penalty exposure, when the responder has done it before. Audit work is the same technical work as preparing a return, just in reverse, under deadline pressure, with the ATO on the other side. Trinity has handled hundreds over twenty-three years; the work is repetitive, and the experience compounds.

  • Letter sitting on the desk

ATO query received, response window closing. Each day of delay adds penalty exposure.
  • Director Penalty Notice

DPN issued, twenty-one days to respond. The wrong response makes you personally liable for company tax debts.
  • Voluntary disclosure

You realised something was lodged incorrectly. Disclosure handled correctly attracts much lower penalties than waiting for the ATO to find it.
  • Payment arrangement needed

Tax debt is real, cash flow is not. The right negotiation gets you twelve months and avoids garnishee.
What you actually need is an accountant who has resolved hundreds of these before.

Audit outcomes

What hundreds of audits buys you.

Less time on admin. Cleaner records. Better decisions because the numbers are current.

  • Hundreds resolved

Most ATO matters we have taken on resolve without penalty escalation. The work is repetitive, the experience compounds.
  • Direct ATO contact

We deal with the ATO officer directly through our agent portal. You stop being the contact, we become it.
  • Same-week response

Most matters get a substantive response within five business days. The ATO appreciates fast, complete answers and treats us accordingly.
  • Through to resolution

We do not stop at the first reply. We stay on the matter until the ATO closes the file, the debt is settled, or the assessment is final.
  • Penalty remission requested

Most responses include a remission request where reasonable. Reduces or removes the penalty in many cases, even when the underlying issue is genuine.
  • Quiet matters stay quiet

Voluntary disclosures and careful responses keep matters from escalating. Most files close at the first or second exchange, not after a tribunal.

Response process

From the letter to a closed file.

Same process for every new engagement. You know what is happening and when.

  • Triage and document review

We read the ATO correspondence, pull the relevant returns and working files, and assess exposure within forty-eight hours.

    • Read every page of the ATO letter, including attachments
    • Pull the original return and working papers from the relevant year
    • Assess penalty and interest exposure
    • Recommend response strategy: defend, disclose, or negotiate
  • Response preparation

Detailed response prepared, supporting documentation compiled, draft sent to you before submission.

    • Detailed response addressing every point raised
    • Supporting workpapers and documentation compiled
    • Draft response shared with you for review
    • Submission via the ATO portal once approved
  • Resolution and follow-through

We stay on the matter through the ATO’s review, any back-and-forth, and final closure.

    • Track ATO acknowledgement and review timeline
    • Respond to follow-up queries promptly
    • Negotiate penalty remission or payment arrangements where applicable
    • Final closure letter or assessment confirmed in writing

Who we represent

People we take on at the ATO.

If you see your situation below, we have done this work before. If you do not, ask anyway.

  • Recipients of an ATO audit notice

Returns selected for review, sometimes random, sometimes targeted. Either way, the response needs to be detailed and on time.
  • Directors with a DPN

Director Penalty Notice received, twenty-one days to act. The right response keeps the liability with the company. The wrong one makes it personal.
  • Anyone facing voluntary disclosure

Realised something was lodged wrong. Voluntary disclosure attracts much lower penalties than the ATO finding it themselves. Done right, often no penalty at all.
  • Businesses with tax debt

Outstanding ATO debt, garnishee threatened, payment arrangement needed. We negotiate terms that work for the business cash flow.

About Trinity Accounting

A small firm by design.

Trinity Accounting Practice opened in Beverly Hills in 2003. Ramy Hanna, a registered tax agent and Fellow of three Australian accounting institutes, has run it since. The firm has stayed deliberately small, deliberately local, and deliberately senior. The principal you talk to today is the principal who will be reviewing your return next October.

Most of our work comes from referrals. Most clients have been with us for years, some for decades. We think that says more about the work than any award would.

Audit questions

ATO audit questions, calmly answered.

An ATO query is stressful enough without unanswered questions about the response. Here is what clients ask first.

ATO matters are quoted up front based on scope and urgency. Routine queries start around $500. Complex audits or DPN responses are quoted as a fixed fee after initial review.

Send it to us before you respond. Many ATO letters have specific procedural requirements where the response shape matters as much as the content. Forty-eight hours to triage is enough for almost any matter.

Often. Penalty remission is available where there is reasonable cause, voluntary disclosure, or the matter resolves quickly. We have remission requests built into most of our responses.

A DPN makes the company director personally liable for unpaid PAYG, GST, or super. Twenty-one days from issue to respond. The wrong response or no response makes the liability personal and unrecoverable.

Yes. We can act as audit specialist alongside your regular accountant. Most matters resolve cleanly when one practice handles compliance and another handles the audit.

We negotiate payment arrangements with the ATO. Most arrangements run six to twenty-four months, depending on amount and circumstances. The ATO is much more reasonable than people assume, when approached properly.
